The University of Notre Dames Center for Social Concerns has received an award fromSouth Bends Family&Childrens Center for its service to children and families in northernIndiana.

The Childrens Campus Spirit of Giving Award was presented to the centers executive director, Rev. William M. Lies, C.S.C., Wednesday night (Jan. 31) at a ceremony in the South Bend Civic Theatre marking the 125 th anniversary of the Family&Childrens Center.

This award is a terrific honor for the Center for Social Concerns and for Notre Dame,Father Lies said.We know how important it is that we tend to our civic and community responsibilities, so a recognition of this sort means a great deal to us.Further, as we try to push the walls of our classrooms into the community and into the social issues of our day, some important teachers of our students rise up out of the agencies and community partners with which we work. So, we’re both grateful for these partnerships and humbled by this honor.

The Family&Childrens Center is dedicated to strengthening the emotional and behavioral health of the communities it serves, with special emphasis on the needs of children and families. Its affiliates serve the community with several programs and services, including after-school programming through the Boys&Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County; residential and day treatment for emotionally disturbed youths through the Childrens Campus; and individual and group counseling as well as therapy services for those affected by sexual trauma through the centers counseling and development services.
