The Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) program at the University of Notre Dame will host a Summer Fellowship Forum to examine the issue of parental choice in education (often referred to as “school choice”) Friday to Sunday (July 10 to 12).
Guest speakers include Anthony Williams, the former mayor of Washington, D.C., and a prominent figure in the national school choice movement through his support for the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program; Gerard Robinson, president of the Black Alliance for Educational Options; and Patrick McCloskey, author of “The Street Stops Here,” who will deliver the opening address and hold a book signing.
Each summer, ACE hosts a forum to examine an issue of national importance to Catholic education. This year’s event takes place during a two-week symposium at Notre Dame designed to train 18 people to be leaders in the school choice movement.

Established in 1994, ACE provides college graduates an opportunity to earn master of education degrees while serving as teachers in understaffed Catholic schools nationwide. In exchange for a modest stipend and a tuition-free graduate program, the ACE participants make a two-year commitment to teach in these schools. More than 85 recent college graduates from a wide variety of educational disciplines enter ACE each year. They take courses and participate in teacher training projects at Notre Dame during their two summers in the program and are assigned to full-time teaching positions at schools in some 30 cities and 14 states during the academic year. After two years, the students graduate with master’s degrees, and about 75 percent elect to remain in education.
