Gas leak causes 90-minute evacuation of Mendoza

by Don Wycliff

Workmen at a construction project at the University of Notre Dame accidentally ruptured a 2-inch gas main Wednesday (June 13), forcing the evacuation of the buildings housing the Mendoza College of Business for about 90 minutes.

The rupture occurred about 12:30 p.m. to a gas line that runs just east ofMendoza. It took repair crews until just before 2 p.m. to find and shut off the valves that fed the broken section of the line.

No injuries were reported as a result of the accident.
