Father Hesburgh undergoes successful kidney surgery

Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame, is resting comfortably after undergoing kidney surgery today (May 2).

The operation, which was performed at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Ind., had been scheduled for several weeks.

Father Hesburgh, 93, was Notre Dame’s president from 1952 to 1987.
