As a participant in the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation Scholarship Program, the University of Notre Dame will award five outstanding first-year students tuition and fees beginning fall 2013.
Penny and Roe Stamps created the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation Inc. in 1993 to provide merit scholarships for undergraduate students at their alma maters. The program recognizes and rewards exceptional students nationally who exemplify leadership, perseverance, scholarship, service and innovation. Since its inception, the foundation has grown to 32 partner universities that enroll almost 300 scholarship recipients.
The Penelope W. and E. Roe Stamps IV Leadership Scholar Awards at the University of Notre Dame, to be known as Stamps Notre Dame Scholarships, supported by the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation and matching funds from Notre Dame, will cover tuition, fees, books and supplies, and provide an allowance for personal expenses and travel. The merit-based scholarships will be renewable through the recipients’ four years at Notre Dame, dependent on academic, extracurricular and service performance. Recipients will be selected from Notre Dame’s top 200 students admitted by Feb. 15, 2013.
Additionally, Stamps Notre Dame Scholars will have access to an enrichment fund of $3,000 annually ($12,000 in total over four years). The fund can be used for summer experiences and/or research. Recipients will also be provided with a faculty mentor as well as a professional mentor from the ranks of Notre Dame’s alumni, parents and friends.

According to Notre Dame Provost Thomas G. Burish, the new scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic performance, intellectual acumen and demonstrable leadership. “The Stamps Notre Dame Scholars Program will build wonderfully on the University’s Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program and other merit-based scholarships designed to attract and retain extraordinary undergraduate students,” he says. “In partnership with the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation, Notre Dame will encourage, equip and sustain these students as they begin to serve and transform our community and the world."

Notre Dame joins 32 other institutions of higher learning now awarding Stamps Scholarships. These include the University of Chicago, the California Institute of Technology, the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of Southern California, the University of Michigan, the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Miami.
