Nonprofit Breakfast Series focuses on human resources tips

Leaders and volunteers from nonprofit organizations are invited to participate in the University of Notre Dame Nonprofit Breakfast Series beginning in January. This year’s four-part series is designed to help organizations and community volunteers learn from human resource experts about how to better hire, grow and manage employees.

Presented by the University’s Office of Public Affairs and Nonprofit Executive Programs in the Mendoza College of Business, the sessions are:

  • Jan. 26: Well-being among helping professionals — Conducted by Matt Bloom, associate management professor and principal investigator for the University’s Wellbeing at Work research program, the session will explore what makes work an engaging and impactful experience and what makes work negative or discouraging.
  • Feb. 23: Money and Manpower — Offered by Barbara Fick, associate professor of law, the session will provide an overview on how the Fair Labor Standards Act regulates the setting of worker wages and the protections offered to employees under federal anti-discrimination laws.
  • March 22: Diversity, Inclusion and Multicultural Competencies — Presented by Eric Love, director of staff diversity and inclusion, this workshop defines diversity, inclusion and related topics, explores several benefits of diversity and will introduce the value of multicultural competencies. Participants will receive insight into more effective leadership, teamwork with diverse teams and how to better serve all constituents.
  • April 26: Leadership in the Workplace: It starts with understanding you — Led by Jill Bodensteiner, senior associate athletics director, this session will explore self-awareness, empathy, vulnerability and healthy conflict when leading a team in the workplace.

The cost to participate in all four sessions is $100, which covers course materials and hot breakfast. The sessions will be held in Jordan Auditorium in the Mendoza College of Business beginning with breakfast from 7 to 8 a.m. and presentations from 8 to 9:30 a.m. A question-and-answer session between participants and presenters is conducted during each session.
