Kroc scholars to lecture on war with Iraq

George Lopez, director of policy studies and senior fellow at the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, and David Cortright, Kroc research fellow, will present a lecture titled “The Coming War with Iraq” at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 17) in the auditorium of the Hesburgh Center for International Studies. Sponsored by the Kroc Institute, the talk is free and open to the public.p. A professor of political science, Lopez focuses on human rights problems and economic sanctions. He and Cortright coauthored “The Sanctions Decade” and “Sanctions and the Search for Security” and co-edited “Smart Sanctions,” three books that have had a substantial impact on UN discussions of sanctions reform. Lopez also is the current chair of the board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the organization that regulates the “Doomsday Clock.”p.
