The University of Notre Dame has received a $147,000 gift from the estate of alumnus Michael R. Hayes to establish the Reverend Thomas T. McAvoy, C.S.C., Endowment for Excellence in History.p. Beginning this fall, the endowment will fund research by history honors students and students in research seminars through travel grants and library purchases. Ultimately, the endowment will support visiting lecturers and student-led conferences.p.
