Maureen Hallinan, William P. and Hazel B. White Professor of Sociology at Notre Dame and one of the worlds leading authorities on the sociology of education, delivered the lecture Oct. 23. Her presentation included a discussion of recent research on Catholic schools, including theCatholic school advantage- the documented higher academic achievements of students who attend Catholic schools. She also reported on preliminary results of a project funded by the Department of Education that compares best practices in Catholic and public schools in Chicago.p. Sponsored by the College of Arts and Letters, the Saturday Scholar Series presentations begin three and one-half hours before kickoff of each home football game and are held in the auditorium of the Hesburgh Center for International Studies.p. The next presentation will be held Nov. 13 and will feature E.
