Seventeen graduates receive national fellowships and scholarships

The Fulbright Exchange Program, National Science Foundation and other national organizations have awarded postgraduate scholarships and fellowships to 17 members of the University of Notre Dame’s Class of 2011.

Two graduates received Fulbright Research and Study Grants. They are: Andrew Mrugala, Las Vegas, to Poland; and Ann Weber, Grand Junction, Colo., to Austria.

Five seniors were awarded Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships. They are: Cherrica Li, Carmel, Ind., to Taiwan; Jaime Cordes, Raleigh, N.C., to Russia; John Greil, Hastings, Minn., to Germany; Amanda Johnson, Omaha, Neb., to Poland; and Virginia Varraveto, Leawood, Kan., to Peru.

Rosary Abot, Sacramento, Calif.; Kristen Drahos (master of theological studies), Roanoke, Va.; and Kayla Durcholz, Warsaw, Ind., received Lilly Graduate Fellowships.

Three graduates received National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships. They are: Claire Brown, Logansport, Ind.; Jake Lussier, Manchester, N.H.; and Kevin Mickey, Dublin, Ohio.

Claire Reising, Rolling Meadows, Ill., received a French Government Teaching Assistantship.

In addition, Elizabeth Simpson, Powell, Wyo., and Puja Parikh, Fort Wayne, Ind., received Truman Scholarships during their junior year, and Lussier and Shayna Sura, Pleasant Prairie, Wis., received Goldwater Scholarships, as juniors.
